The CIC launches The Encore Institute!
We are excited to announce the launching of a new Institute this Fall at the CIC. The Encore Institute is designed for those over the age of 55 and programs will focus on spirituality and vitality as we age. Programs will be held monthly from 10-11:30am with lunch following each program.
Finding Joy and Meaning in the Second Half of Life

This opening session of Encore is directed at some of the basic questions of our lives: What is our primary identity at this stage of our life? Are we focusing on the past, the present, or the future? What is giving us a feeling of zest at this point in our lives? Do we see any connections between the “first half of our life” and now the “second half of our life?” What spiritual practices draw us into deeper joy? Do we resonate with the recently spoken words of Pope Francis: “To follow God’s law, begin with gratitude?” You are invited to join us in the pondering and “living out” of these fundamental questions as we begin the Encore experience. The Catholic Church has produced some of the world’s greatest beer, wine, and liquors. In this program, we’ll discuss the various spirits that Catholic religious orders have distilled through the centuries, including Chartreuse, which some consider to be the world’s greatest liquor. Together, we will talk about the history of liquor production and the Church’s involvement in it and connect the important social value of enjoying a fine spirit over a conversation with friends and family.
