This presentation will explore the journey of conversion as falling in love with God. This journey takes place on all levels of our being: religious, moral, and intellectual. The life stories of Thomas Merton, Dorothy Day, and Oscar Romero help us reflect on how their experience of conversion sheds light on our own.
Patricia Cooney Hathaway, Ph.D. is Professor of Spirituality and Systematic Theology at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit, Michigan. She received her doctorate from the Catholic University of America, where she specialized in the areas of Systematic Theology, Spirituality, and Human and Spiritual Development. She has a certificate in Spiritual Direction from the Shalem Institute of Spiritual Formation and has been involved in the ministry of spiritual direction and pastoral counseling for over twenty-five years. She is a frequent and sought-after speaker at parishes, vicariates, seminars, and convocations throughout the Archdiocese of Detroit and around the country. A published author, she recently edited a book. Sex and the Spiritual Life, Reclaiming Integrity, Intimacy, and Wholeness. which received a third-place award in Theology from the Catholic Media Association. She is married to Thomas Hathaway with whom she has two children, Thomas Jr. and Victoria.
